So in the end I really don't think this is going to provide anyone an advantage, maybe false hope which I think is a sad way for people to get their ego bruised, but it is what it is. This is in no way an attack on you, but unless someone is a close friend of mine, I'm not going to hang out in their channel if the content sucks just because it's someone who got an affiliate invite. I'm proud when I keep people coming back because they value what I am doing. I understand everyone sees it differently, but for me, as someone who is chasing a dream as elusive as acting or becoming an astronaut, I wasn't proud of stepping up to the starting line. The distinction between the successful is being able to foster a community and provide good content, you can't buy that, and that's what you should be proud of. If someone who has 0-2 viewers needs to buy in, they are still lower than you on the totem pole (probably) and either won't last, or they will make good content and grow an audience the same as anyone else.Īffiliate is really just a starting point on Twitch as a streamer. There are affiliates who take months or years to get a payout, and affiliates who are making a living wage. Have to agree to disagree then, because anyone thinking about taking streaming seriously can easily get affiliate almost immediately. But I don't think Monstercat has the responsibility to place a disclaimer saying: "if your content is trash Monstercat is not responsible for you not getting viewers, followers or subscribers" This isn't Monstercat lying, it could potentially be people not having realistic expectations though. If you are boring and nobody knows who you are even getting affiliate will keep your income from Twitch at 0. Getting affiliate isn't an overwhelming goal if you know what you are doing and work hard for it.

They will not teach you how to be entertaining and will not market your stream. Now the crux of the issue is that there are people who don't have worthwhile content but that's not what monstercat offers. Monstercat Gold costs $5/month, so even after Twitch cut and fees you make a profit with just 3 subs. Getting affiliate status unlocks Twitch monetization, thats one step closer, they didn't lie at all. To be fair, one step closer does not mean the end goal.
